A PATH FULL OF MEMORIES
The Westerborkpad is a Long Distance Walking Path (LAW) of 340 kilometers long that is all about reflection. During this walk, you hike from the Hollandsche Schouwburg, which served as a meeting place for Jews in Amsterdam, to the former Camp Westerbork. Almost the entire path runs along the track over which people were deported during the Second World War. Each stage forms also a moment to reflect on these terrible events in history. For this reason, the route has also been deliberately marked in a single direction.
During the route you will pass all kinds of places that will remind you of the deportation of the Jews, such as hiding places, monuments, and labor camps. The path was built on the initiative of Jan Dokter who himself walked the route in memory of his family, after which it was renamed an official route.
